Biography

Mark & Kambour Pathology, a Sonic Healthcare Anatomic Pathology Practice, is privileged to include Sherry M. Thompson, M.D., as a member of our medical staff. Dr. Thompson has extensive professional and teaching experience with an impressive academic background.

Dr. Thompson graduated with honors from the University of Miami in Florida with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and a minor in anthropology and chemistry. Here, she subsequently earned her medical degree from their school of medicine. Dr. Thompson went on to complete a four-year residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at the Jackson Memorial Medical Center of the University of Miami, the final year of which she served as chief resident and was honored with numerous awards, including the Best Anatomic and Clinical Pathology Presentation Award. She later finished a surgical pathology fellowship with a special interest in GI, GU, and breast pathology at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, Florida.

Since completing her postgraduate training, Dr. Thompson has held a series of key positions in hospitals, laboratories, and teaching facilities in the South Florida area. She was clinical assistant professor at the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine at Florida International University in Miami. She has also taught surgical grand rounds for medical students, residents, and fellows at Larkin Community Hospital. She has been laboratory director of Medipath, GastroMed, Southlake Gastroenterology, and Advanced Pathology Laboratory. Dr. Thompson has been with Mark & Kambour Pathology since 2010, where she is currently serving as surgical pathologist and our director of surgical pathology and cytology.

Dr. Thompson presently serves as chair of the breast council and managing directors council, and belongs to the College of American Pathologists and the Florida Society of Pathologists. Her research efforts, which include solitary neurofibroma of the breast and unusual presentation of tubular carcinoma of the breast have been published in peer-reviewed medical journals. She has also delivered award-winning presentations at professional society meetings and universities.

Dr. Thompson holds full medical licensure in the states of Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Ohio. She is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology by the American Board of Pathology.
