Biography

University Pathologists, a Sonic Healthcare anatomic pathology practice, is privileged to include Negar Rassaei, M.D., as a part of its dynamic medical staff. Dr. Rassaei is a board-certified pathologist who brings extensive professional medical experience and a considerable list of publications.

Dr. Rassaei earned her medical degree at the University Catholique de Louvain, School of Medicine in Brussels, Belgium. She served two residencies in internal medicine, one at Notre-Dame Hospital in Libramont, Belgium, and the other at Saint Pierre Hospital in Messancy, Belgium. She then completed a pathology residency at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington D.C. Dr. Rassaei completed two fellowships. The first was a fellowship in pulmonary and mediastinal pathology at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Washington, D.C. The second was a general surgical pathology fellowship at Yale School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut.

Dr. Rassaei has robust experience in professional medical roles, including several academic appointments. She was an assistant and junior staff pathologist in the pathology and diagnostic immunology department of The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, followed by a position as a staff pathologist at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology. She held an appointment as assistant professor of gastrointestinal/liver and pancreas pathology and thoracic pathology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in Miami, Florida. Dr. Rassaei was an assistant, then associate, professor in the pathology department of Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania, where she held the position of director of the pulmonary pathology division. During her time at University of Miami and Penn State Health, she was also a visiting pathologist of gastrointestinal pathology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, and The Johns Hopkins Hospital, as well as a visiting pathologist of liver pathology at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Hospital in New York, New York. Prior to joining University Pathologists, Dr. Rassaei was a physician pathologist at the Center of Disease Control and Prevention, National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases, in Atlanta, Georgia.

Dr. Rassaei has a sizable list of published peer-reviewed manuscripts, poster and oral presentations, and book chapters. She has published articles in prestigious medical journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, Pathology Research and Practice, the International Journal of Surgical Pathology, and Modern Pathology, among others. She has two chapters published in Pulmonary Pathology, Second Edition.

Dr. Rassaei belongs to several professional organizations, including the College of American Pathologists, Pulmonary Pathology Society, International Association of the Study of Lung Cancer, and the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology. Dr. Rassaei holds full medical licensure and is board certified in anatomic pathology by the American Board of Pathology.
