Biography

ProPath, a Sonic Healthcare anatomic pathology practice, is privileged to include Paula J. Washington, M.D., as a part of its dynamic medical staff. Dr. Washington is a board-certified pathologist who brings exceptional experience to her position, including a significant number of medical directorships.

Dr. Washington graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Newcomb College, Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. She earned her medical degree at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston and Tulane University School of Medicine. Following her degrees, Dr. Washington completed an internship in psychiatry at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina, and a residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at Tulane University and Ochsner Foundation Hospital in Jefferson, LA.

Dr. Washington has considerable professional medical experience. Following her postgraduate training, she started as a pathologist at Freeman, Gyer, Hemelt, and Associates in New Orleans. From there, she held a number of pathologist positions in Texas. These included pathologist positions at Hospital Pathology Associates, Department of Veterans Affairs, High Plains Baptist Hospital, and Amarillo Clinical Laboratory, all in Amarillo, TX. She was in private practice and the owner of Paula J. Washington, M.D., P.A., before joining ProPath as a pathologist. Dr. Washington has also held more than 10 appointments as medical director at medical institutions across Texas. These include the medical director of Quest Diagnostics in Irving followed by ProPath Laboratory and ProPath Women’s Services in Dallas. She was also the medical director at Lillian M. Hudspeth Memorial Hospital Laboratory, Ally Clinical Diagnostics, Dallas Nephrology Associates and Transplant Institute Laboratory, Kindred Hospital Dallas, and Saint Camillus Medical Center Laboratory. In addition to her position at ProPath, she is currently the medical director at Reeves County Hospital Laboratory in Pecos, TX, and OctaPharma Plasma in Denton and Fort Worth.
