Biography

Cunningham Pathology, a Sonic Healthcare anatomic pathology practice is privileged to include David Dorn M.D., as a member of our medical staff. Dr. Dorn has extensive teaching experience with an impressive academic background.

Dr. Dorn graduated from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa with his Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry. He then earned his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham.

Dr. Dorn went on to serve a four-year anatomic and clinical pathology residency at the University of Alabama Hospital, where he subsequently completed a hematopathology fellowship.

During his medical training, Dr. Dorn was the recipient of many awards and honors in recognition of his academic contributions. He won the Excellence in Research award during the University of Alabama General Surgery Resident Research Day. He was also recognized with the William Boyd Medal for Excellence in Pathology, and Certificate of Commendation from the Forensic and Crime Laboratory Task Force, both in his first year of residency. Most recently, he received the Roger Denio Baker Prize for outstanding resident achievement in anatomic pathology.

Dr. Dorn also acted in a number of teaching roles while studying at the University of Alabama, serving chiefly as an Instructor/Proctor for the medical student laboratory and small group sessions. Upon concluding his postgraduate training, he began working with Cunningham Pathology, where he currently serves as Staff Pathologist.

Dr. Dorn is a member of five professional medical organizations, including the College of American Pathologists and the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology. He holds full medical licensure in the state of Alabama, and he is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology by the American Board of Pathology.

Dr. Dorn has authored and co-authored numerous articles and abstracts published in peer-reviewed medical journals.
