Biography

Cascade Pathology Services, a Sonic Healthcare anatomic pathology practice, is pleased to include Matthew J. Evans, M.D., in its dynamic medical staff. Dr. Evans is a distinguished professional, bringing with him a wealth of medical and academic experience.

Dr. Evans earned his Bachelor of Science degree in biology and chemistry from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, graduating on both the chancellor’s and dean’s lists for his academic achievements. Subsequently, he graduated with his medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. He then went on to complete his anatomic and clinical pathology residency, receiving the Jerald R. Schenken, M.D., Outstanding Achievement in Pathology Award.

Dr. Evans concluded his postgraduate training with a surgical pathology fellowship, which provided him with specialized expertise in genitourinary pathology at the University of Utah Health Sciences Center/ ARUP Laboratories. He began his professional career at Pathology Associates of Idaho Falls in Idaho, where he served as a general anatomic and clinical pathologist, director of microbiology at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, and laboratory director of Nell J. Redfield Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Evans has presented at numerous treatment planning and interdisciplinary educational conferences, where he has shared his knowledge on various subspecialties, such as genitourinary, head and neck, and soft tissue pathology. He has been an active member of many professional medical organizations such as the Association for the Advancement of Blood and Biotherapies, College of American Pathologists and the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology.

Currently, Dr. Evans is a practicing surgical pathologist while also serving as the medical director of transfusion services for Legacy Health System and championing a regional collaborative for management of blood supplies in times of national blood product shortage. His areas of interest include genitourinary pathology, head and neck pathology, and blood banking/ transfusion services.

Dr. Evans holds full medical licensure in the states of Oregon and Washington and is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology by the American Board of Pathology.
