Biography
Trinity Pathology Associates, a Sonic Healthcare anatomic pathology practice, is privileged to include Ammar Karo, M.D., as a part of its dynamic medical team. Dr. Karo is a board-certified pathologist who brings professional medical experience and a collection of peer-reviewed manuscripts and presentations.
Dr. Karo earned his medical degree from the University of Damascus in Damascus, Syria. He completed his residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine, where he served as chief resident and won the Resident of the Year award. Following his residency, he completed a fellowship in cytopathology at the University of Southern California and the Los Angeles County Hospital in Los Angeles, California.
Dr. Karo has held a variety of professional positions. Following medical school, he was a clinical research coordinator at the John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, Department of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism, in Chicago, Illinois. He then held the position of clinical research associate, then lead clinical research associate, at Medpace in Chicago.
Dr. Karo has published peer-reviewed articles, presented poster presentations and abstracts, and given multiple professional oral presentations. His peer-reviewed manuscripts are published in a variety of journals including Clinical and Applied Thrombosis Hemostasis, American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, and Chest Journal. He’s given numerous poster and abstract presentations at conferences including the annual meetings of the American Society of Cytopathology, United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology, among others. Dr. Karo also gave oral presentations to the interdisciplinary tumor boards at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine, John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County and Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, IL.
Dr. Karo is a member of the College of American Pathologists, American Society of Clinical Pathology, American Society of Cytopathology, and the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology.
Dr. Karo holds full medical licensure and is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology.
