Biography

Cascade Pathology Services, a Sonic Healthcare anatomic pathology practice, is privileged to include Byron Barksdale, Jr., M.D., as a member of our dynamic medical staff. Dr. Barksdale brings with him extensive research and academic experience in pathology.

Dr. Barksdale graduated with Bachelor of Science degrees in biochemistry and cellular and molecular biology from the University of Texas at Austin in Austin, Texas. He subsequently received his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies, from which he graduated with distinction. He completed his residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics in Madison, Wisconsin, where he served as chief resident and pathology department representative. This was followed by a fellowship in hematopathology at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon.

Currently, Dr. Barksdale is the section medical director for coagulation, body fluids, and urine and flow cytometry at Legacy Lab Services.

Dr. Barksdale has a rich academic and research background including teaching and publishing. He has teaching experience in the field of pathology with lectures on cardiovascular histology, cancer cytology, and more. He has a variety of peer-reviewed publications and educational write-ups for various pathology societies and organizations. He has given numerous presentations in pathology on topics such as oncologic pathology and infectious disease. His research experience includes projects at the Texas State Department of State Health Services and the University of Texas at Austin in infectious disease and molecular sciences.

Dr. Barksdale belongs to a number of professional pathology associations including the American Society of Clinical Pathology, United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology, and the College of American Pathologists, along with the Oregon Pathology Association and Pacific Northwest Pathology Society.

Dr. Barksdale is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and hematopathology. He holds full medical licensure.
