Biography
CBLPath, a Sonic Healthcare anatomic pathology practice, is pleased to include Maryam Bakhshandeh, M.D., as a part of its dynamic medical staff. Dr. Bakhshandeh is a board-certified pathologist who brings a wealth of experience to the pathology team, particularly in the field of breast pathology and disease.
Dr. Bakhshandeh graduated with her medical degree from Hamadan University of Medical Sciences in Tehran, Iran. She completed a residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at the Saint Barnabas Health Care System Integrated Residency Program in Livingston, New Jersey. During her residency, she took elective rotations in dermatopathology at both Mount Sinai Hospital and the Ackerman Academy in Dermatopathology in New York, NY. Following her residency, Dr. Bakhshandeh underwent a fellowship in breast pathology at the University of Florida Health Science Center in Jacksonville, where she studied under world-renowned breast pathologist, Dr. Shahla Masood. During her fellowship, she also participated in breast pathology research at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.
Dr. Bakhshandeh is active in breast cancer research and has published numerous times in peer-reviewed medical journals. Journals where her research on breast disease has been published include The Journal of the American Medical Association, The Breast Journal, and Diagnostic Cytopathology. In addition to her published research, Dr. Bakhshandeh has also presented on breast diseases as a breast pathology expert at the annual meetings of the National Consortium of Breast Centers and presented research at the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology and the American Society of Cytopathology.
Dr. Bakhshandeh is a member of several professional organizations for breast health and pathology, including the American Society of Breast Disease, National Consortium of Breast Centers, International Society of Breast Pathology, World Society for Breast Health, College of American Pathologists and the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.
Dr. Bakhshandeh holds full medical licensure and is board certified in anatomic pathology by the American Board of Pathology.
