Biography

University Pathologists, a Sonic Healthcare Anatomic Pathology Practice, is privileged to include Abby Hornstein, M.D., as a member of its dynamic medical staff. Dr. Hornstein has an extensive academic, teaching, and medical professional background.

Dr. Hornstein earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in chemistry graduating with distinction, summa cum laude, from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She then received her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Subsequently, she began her postgraduate training with a pathology residency at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA, where she was also a visiting fellow in surgical pathology at the Memorial-Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. She then completed both a pathology fellowship and a cytopathology fellowship at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She later completed an administrative chief residency at the West Roxbury V.A. Hospital in Massachusetts.

Upon completion of her postgraduate training, Dr. Hornstein began holding teaching positions in universities across Massachusetts and Rhode Island. She served on the teaching staff of the Harvard Medical School and served as assistant professor of pathology and orthopedic surgery at the Brown University Medical School in Providence, Rhode Island, as well as a clinical associate professor at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester. She was a staff pathologist for several hospitals, including Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton, MA, and Carney Hospital in Boston.

Over the years, Dr. Hornstein has developed extensive professional and clinical experience. She holds medical research publications and articles in peer-reviewed medical journals, as well as numerous abstracts and academic presentations. She is an active member of the College of American Pathologists, Massachusetts Medical Society, and the New England Society of Pathologists.

Dr. Hornstein holds full medical licensure and is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology.
