Biography

Austin Pathology Associates, a Sonic Healthcare anatomic pathology practice is privileged to include Kit E. Purdy, M.D., Ph.D., as a member of our medical staff. Dr. Purdy has an extensive professional background, complemented by an impressive academic and teaching background.

Dr. Purdy graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from the University of Texas in San Antonio. She went on to receive both her doctoral research degree in cell and molecular physiology (supported by a Howard Hughes Fellowship); and her medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, graduating with distinction.

After completing a four-year anatomic and clinical pathology residency at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia (during which she served as Chief Resident in her final year), Dr. Purdy then completed a surgical pathology fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas.

While at the University of Texas Southwestern, Dr. Purdy began her teaching career as an Assistant Instructor, later serving as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Texas A&M Health Science Center in Round Rock. She maintains this position concurrently with her Medical Director appointment at the Laboratory Heart Hospital of Austin, Texas. She has served as a Staff Pathologist with Austin Pathology for more than ten years.

Dr. Purdy is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the Physician of the Quarter Award from St. David’s North Austin Medical Center, and the Glasgow Rubin Achievement Award for graduating first in her medical school class. She belongs to four professional medical organizations, including the American Society for Clinical Pathology and the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology.

Dr. Purdy is board certified by the American Board of Pathology in anatomic and clinical pathology and holds full medical licensure in the state of Texas. She has coauthored several publications for peer-reviewed journals and has given a number of presentations at professional societies and medical conferences.
