Biography

GPA Laboratories, a Sonic Healthcare anatomic pathology practice, is pleased to include Fred L. Picklesimer Jr., M.D., as part of its dynamic medical staff. Dr. Picklesimer is a board-certified pathologist with a subspecialty in cytopathology.

Dr. Picklesimer received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry and biology from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He earned his medical degree from the Bowman Gray School of Medicine of Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He completed multiple pathology residencies, first at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine in Mobile before others at University of Florida Health Science Center in Jacksonville and the Medical College of Pennsylvania, Hahnemann University (now Drexel University School of Medicine), in Philadelphia, where he served as chief resident. While there, he completed a surgical pathology fellowship. He completed another surgical pathology fellowship at The Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston before completing a cytopathology fellowship at the same institution.

Dr. Picklesimer was a partner at Chipps, Caffrey & Dubilier, P.S.C, in Lexington, Kentucky, for over 20 years before joining GPA Laboratories. He also served as vice president for some of his time there. While he held the position of vice president of Chipps, Caffrey & Dubilier, he was also president of P&C Labs, LLC in Lexington.

Dr. Picklesimer is a member of several professional organizations. He is a fellow member of the College of American Pathologists as well as a member of the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology, Kentucky Medical Association, and Lexington Medical Society.

Dr. Picklesimer holds full medical licensure and is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology by the American Board of Pathology with a subspecialty certification in cytopathology.
