Biography

Austin Pathology Associates, a Sonic Healthcare anatomic pathology practice is privileged to include Michelle A. Foshat, M.D., as a member of our medical staff. Dr.Foshat has extensive hospital and professional experience with an impressive academic and research background.

Dr. Foshat completed her undergraduate degree in biology, with a neurobiology concentration, graduating with honors. She went on to receive her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. She remained in Galveston to complete a four-year residency in anatomic and clinical pathology. For the final year of this residency, she served as Chief Resident.

Dr. Foshat subsequently completed a fellowship in hematopathology at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio, and finally, a cytopathology fellowship at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.

Dr. Foshat currently holds full medical licensure in the state of Texas. She is board certified by the American Board of Pathology in anatomic and clinical pathology and hematopathology. She holds special qualifications in Laboratory Management, ThinPrep Pap Test, BD SurePath, CAP Inspection, and Basic Cardiac Life Support.

Dr. Foshat has received a number of awards and honors throughout her career, including the Excellence in Teaching Award, the Patient Safety Award, and the Department of Pathology’s Trainee Research Day Poster Award (at both the 19th and 20th Annual Meeting), all from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.

Dr. Foshat has acquired significant experience teaching at hospitals and in various academic settings, including as Senior Resident Instructor of surgical pathology at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston; and as Facilitator of hematology and applied clinical laboratory medicine at the University of Texas Health Science San Antonio, where she also participated in several Resident Education Lecture Series.

Dr. Foshat is a member of four medical professional associations, including the American Society for Clinical Pathology and the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology. She is an active member of the Heritage Council of Texas Society of Pathologists. Dr. Foshat has extensive research experience, for which she has been the recipient of numerous grants and research awards. She has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed articles, including a contribution to the Encyclopedia of Pathology.
