Biography

Western Pathology, a Sonic Healthcare anatomic pathology practice is privileged to include Johnathan M. Hollyfield, M.D., as a member of our medical staff.

Dr. Hollyfield graduated with a degree in biochemistry from Grinnell College and earned his medical degree from the American University of the Caribbean in Coral Gables, Florida.

Dr. Hollyfield completed his residency at the University of North Carolina (2013-2017), where he functioned as chief resident with duties that included rotation and call scheduling, conflict resolution, and management of medical student education. He gained exposure to surgical pathology specimens across organ systems, as well as extensive laboratory training, overseeing CAP accreditation and compliance issues.

Dr. Hollyfield was granted a research fellowship in cytopathology at the University of North Carolina (2017-2018). During his fellowship, he conducted research, conveyed on-site interpretation of FNAs, and facilitated the testing of cytology specimens for clinicians.

In 2017, Dr. Hollyfield presented at the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP) Annual Meeting on the topic PD-L1 testing in FNA cell blocks, resulting from the research he conducted.

Dr. Hollyfield served as a consultant for the anatomic pathology division of IQVIA in Durham, North Carolina, where he was responsible for reviewing H&E slides and providing tumor analysis.

Dr. Hollyfield currently holds full medical licensure in the state of North Carolina. He is board certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology.
