Biography

LMC Pathology Services, a Sonic Healthcare anatomic pathology practice, is privileged to include Abel A. Gonzalez, M.D., as a part of its dynamic medical staff. Dr. Gonzalez brings extensive professional experience, including academic appointments, and a robust research and publication background. 

Dr. Gonzalez graduated with his medical degree from the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, Facultad de Medicina in Monterrey, Mexico.
He completed a residency in anatomic pathology at the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, where he served as chief resident. He served a second residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, where he held the position of chief resident. He was a visiting research fellow in the hematopathology department at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, before completing a cytopathology fellowship at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.

Dr. Gonzalez started as a primary care physician in Mexico, working at several different practices in Monterrey. Following his first residency, he was an associate pathologist at Laboratorio Gonzalez in Monterrey. Following the completion of his second residency, he served as an assistant attending in surgical pathology at Columbia University Medical Center and New York Presbyterian Hospital in New York, NY. Prior to joining LMC Pathology Services, he was an assistant professor of cytopathology at Columbia University Medical Center and New York Presbyterian Hospital. 

Dr. Gonzalez has significant research and publication experience. He has published peer-reviewed manuscripts in journals such as Diagnostic Cytopathology, Journal of the American Society of Cytopathology, and the American Journal of Clinical Pathology, among others. He has been an invited speaker and presented his research at professional conferences such as annual meetings of the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology and the American Society of Cytopathology, among others. He has served as a journal reviewer for Hematological Oncology andDiagnostic Cytopathology

Dr. Gonzalez is a member of several professional organizations, including the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology, College of American Pathologists, and American Society of Cytopathology.

Dr. Gonzalez holds full medical licensure and is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and cytopathology.
