Biography

Cunningham Pathology, a Sonic Healthcare anatomic pathology practice is privileged to include Hayward S. Edmunds, M.D., as a member of our medical staff. Dr. Edmunds has extensive professional experience with an impressive academic background.

Dr. Edmunds graduated from the College of Charleston in South Carolina with his bachelor’s degree in biology. He then received his medical degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Charleston.

Dr. Edmunds went on to serve a four-year anatomic and clinical pathology residency at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire. He later completed a hematopathology fellowship at the University of Alabama Birmingham Medical Center.

During his medical education, Dr. Edmunds served as a resident instructor at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, as well as the White River Junction VA Medical Center in Hartford, Vermont. He was responsible for leading general pathology and systems-based medicine laboratory sessions, as well as gastrointestinal pathology conferences, among other lecture series.

Since completing his postgraduate training, Dr. Edmunds has served on the staff of more than a dozen hospitals across Alabama, including Gadsden Surgery Center, the Cullman Regional Medical Center, and four hospitals of the St. Vincent’s Health System. He has served as a Staff Pathologist with Cunningham Pathology for over a decade.

Dr. Edmunds is a member of four professional medical organizations, such as the Association for Molecular Pathology and the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology. He holds full medical licensure in the state of Alabama, and he is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and hematopathology by the American Board of Pathology.

Dr. Edmunds has had the results of his research efforts published as abstracts and articles in peer-reviewed medical journals. He has also given many presentations and lectures at professional medical conferences and universities across the nation.
