Biography

LMC Pathology Services, a Sonic Healthcare anatomic pathology practice, is privileged to include Michelle J. McNamara, M.D., as a part of its dynamic medical staff. Dr. McNamara is a board-certified pathologist who brings extensive professional medical experience as well as specialized expertise in hematopathology and flow cytometry.

Dr. McNamara graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in medical technology from Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee, graduating with honors. She earned her medical degree at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN. She served her residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at the University of California, Davis, in Sacramento, California. This was followed by a fellowship in hematopathology, also at UC Davis in Sacramento.

Dr. McNamara has held positions in laboratories, hospital settings, and diagnostic centers. During medical school, she held the position of medical technologist at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Southern Hills Medical Center in Nashville. After medical school, she was hired as a hematopathologist at NeoGenomics Laboratories, Inc. in Fort Myers, Florida. She then took a pathologist position at Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point in Hudson, FL. She held several positions at Quest Diagnostics/AmeriPath in Florida, including as a pathologist/hematopathologist and as flow cytometry director. After leaving Quest/AmeriPath, Dr. McNamara became a pathologist working within medical and scientific affairs for Ventana Medical Systems (now known as Roche Tissue Diagnostics, a part of the Roche Diagnostics Division) in Arizona. She then held an appointment as an adjunct professor in pathology and anatomical sciences at the University of Missouri. Prior to joining LMC Pathology Services, she was the director of medical and scientific affairs at BD Biosciences in California, and a staff pathologist at Tennessee Valley Health, Nashville VA Medical Center.

Dr. McNamara has published peer-reviewed manuscripts in Cytometry Part A: the journal of the International Society of Analytical Cytology, Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, and the American Journal of Medical Genetics Part A. She has abstracts published in the Archives of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and the Journal of Clinical Apheresis, among others.

Dr. McNamara is a member of the American Medical Association, College of American Pathologists, American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science, and the American Society for Clinical Pathology, among others.

Dr. McNamara holds full medical licensure and is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and hematopathology.
