Biography

Trinity Pathology Associates, a Sonic Healthcare anatomic pathology practice is privileged to include Lisa A. Smith, D.O., as a member of our medical staff. Dr. Smith has impressive professional experience with an extensive academic and teaching background.

Dr. Smith received her medical degree from the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific at the Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California. She then served a four-year anatomic and clinical pathology residency at the University of California at San Diego, where she subsequently finished a placenta pathology fellowship. She went on to complete a surgical pathology fellowship at the University of California at Los Angeles, followed by a cytopathology fellowship from Loyola University of Chicago in Maywood, Illinois.

During her postgraduate training and into her professional career, Dr. Smith garnered a wide variety of teaching experience. She led several clinical laboratory sessions for second-year medical students at the University of California San Diego. She has also given dozens of lectures to pathology residents and medical students at the Texas Tech University of Health Sciences Center, where she served as Laboratory Director and was awarded the Block Teaching Award.

Dr. Smith has also led many Faculty Development and Continuing Medical Education programs. She participated in the 40th Annual Current Concepts in Surgical Pathology symposium at the Harvard Medical School in Boston and published online case studies and case reports for the American Society for Clinical Pathology. For six years, she participated in the Performance Education Program and the Gynecologic and Nongynecologic Cytology programs held by the College of American Pathologists.

Dr. Smith is a Fellow of the American Society for Clinical Pathology and the College of American Pathologists. She holds full medical licensure in the state of Texas and is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and cytopathology by the American Board of Pathology.

Dr. Smith has authored and coauthored several articles, abstracts and book chapters published in peer-reviewed medical journals and textbooks. She is also a manuscript reviewer for Scientific Reports journal and has given many lectures and presentations at universities and professional society meetings.
