Dr. Andrew Kanik is board certified in anatomic pathology and clinical pathology by the American Board of Pathology and in dermatopathology by both the American Board of Pathology and the American Board of Dermatology. He received his medical degree from New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York and completed his residency in surgical pathology, followed by anatomic and clinical pathology at the New York Hospital – Cornell Medical Center, where he also served as Chief Resident. Subsequently, he completed a fellowship in oncologic surgical pathology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center under Dr. Juan Rosai and a two-year fellowship in dermatopathology, including six months of dermatology at Boston University Medical Center under Dr. Jag Bhawan. Prior to his arrival at CBLPath, Dr. Kanik served as Director of Dermatopathology and, most recently, as Executive Medical Director for Dermatopathology at DIANON Systems, Inc. He has published articles on melanoma and vascular tumors in several dermatopathology and dermatology journals and has written a chapter on skin in the textbook, “In Histology for Pathologists”. His additional areas of interest include alopecia and inflammatory dermatoses. Dr. Kanik is a fellow of the American Society of Dermatopathology, the College of American Pathologists and the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, and is an affiliate member of the American Academy of Dermatology.
