Biography
CBLPath, a Sonic Healthcare anatomic pathology practice, is privileged to include Pifu Luo, M.D., Ph.D., F.C.A.P., as a part of its dynamic medical staff. Dr. Luo is aboard-certified senior pathologist and cytopathologist who brings robust professional medical, leadership, and teaching experience and a considerable list of publications. His pathology expertise includes surgical pathology, cytopathology, fine-needle aspiration, pulmonary pathology, immunohistochemistry and pathology/laboratory management.
Dr. Luo earned his medical degree from the Fourth Military Medical University in Xi’an, China. He completed his anatomic and clinical pathology residency training at Fletch Allen Health Care of the University of Vermont (now, The University of Vermont Medical Center) in Burlington. He then completed his cytopathology fellowship training at the same institution.
Dr. Luo has had broad pathology practice experiences. He was an assistant professor, surgical pathologist and cytopathologist in University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City. He held the position of assistant director of pathology and director of cytopathology at Unity Healthcare in Rochester, New York. He was the pathology and laboratory director of Providence Medford Medical Center in Medford, Oregon. He also served as chair of the pathology department of Kingmed Diagnostics in Guangzhou, China. Dr. Luo has been involved in many pathology translational and biomedical research projects, such as AI-assisted Pap smear screening and AI-assisted diagnosis of lung cancers, among others. He was the principal investigator of American government-funded grants, including an NIH-funded R01 grant. He is a laboratory inspector of the College of American Pathologists and also served as a committee member of CAP Cytopathology Committee.
Dr. Luo has extensive publication experience, including publishing his own peer-reviewed manuscripts and as a reviewer for multiple peer-reviewed medical journals. Dr. Luo has published over a hundred articles, including many SCI papers, abstracts, book chapters and books, and has given many lectures at national and international biomedical and pathology conferences. He was a reviewer of many high-impact,peer-reviewed international journals, including the Journal of Comparative Neurology, Brain Research, and Anatomical Record. He was a peer-reviewer of Diagnostic Cytopathology and Journal of the American Society of Cytopathology.
Dr. Luo is a fellow of the College of American Pathologists (FCAP) and member of the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Society of Cytopathology (ASC), and the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP).
Dr. Luo holds full medical licensure and obtained American Pathology Board certifications in anatomic and clinical pathology and cytopathology.
