Biography

University Pathologists, a Sonic Healthcare Anatomic Pathology Practice, is pleased to include Selina C. Cortez, M.D., as a member of its dynamic medical staff. Dr. Cortez brings with her a knowledge indicative of her international training and extensive medical professional career.

Dr. Cortez earned her Bachelor of Science degree in zoology from the University of Philippines in Quezon City. Subsequently, she went on to complete her medical degree from the University of Philippines in Manila.  She then completed her rotating internship and pathology residency at the Philippine General Hospital in Manila. Following her residency, she relocated to the United States. Continuing her postgraduate training, she continued with her clinical and anatomical pathology residency at the Rhode Island Hospital of the Brown School of Medicine. She then completed a neurology fellowship at the Veterans Administration Medical Center of the University of California, San Francisco, and a neuropathology fellowship at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the Children’s Hospital of the Harvard University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. 

Upon completion of her postgraduate training, Dr. Cortez began serving hospitals across the Northeast, working as a staff pathologist for the UMass Medical Center, UMass Health Alliance in Boston, the St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, New Jersey, and Our Lady of Fatima Hospital in Providence, RI. She has also worked as a staff neuropathologist at Rhode Island Hospital.

Over the years, Dr. Cortez has developed extensive teaching and professional experience. She holds medical research publications, abstracts, and articles in peer-reviewed medical journals. She has held positions as associate instructor and professor of pathology and laboratory medicine. She is an active member of the American Association of Neuropathologists and the College of American Pathologists.

Dr. Cortez holds full medical licensure and is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology, and neuropathology.
