Biography

Pacific Pathology Associates, a Sonic Healthcare anatomic pathology practice, is pleased to include Sara V. Smith, M.D., F.C.A.P., as a member of our medical staff. Dr. Smith has an extensive academic background with impressive professional experience.

Dr. Smith received both her Bachelor of Science degree and her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Irvine. She received her medical degree from the Wake Forest University Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Following a four-year anatomic and clinical pathology residency, Dr. Smith completed a surgical pathology fellowship, both at the Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood, Illinois. She went on to finish a cytopathology fellowship at Henry Ford Hospital of Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. She also participated in a ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration focused summer training program with the Fine-Needle Aspiration Medical Group in Alhambra, California. She then finished a breast pathology fellowship at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Jacksonville under the guidance of Dr. Shahla Masood.

For many years, Dr. Smith was an independent contractor at hospitals and laboratories across the country, including Dreyer Medical Clinic in Aurora, Illinois, San Antonio Community Hospital in Upland, California, and the Ralph H. Johnson Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Charleston, South Carolina. She has worked as a pathologist and cytopathologist with Pacific Pathology Associates since 2019.

Dr. Smith is a Fellow of the College of American Pathologists and belongs to four other professional medical organizations, such as the American Society of Clinical Pathology and the College of American Pathologists. She holds full medical licensure in the states of California and Oregon. She is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and cytopathology by the American Board of Pathology. She is also certified in ThinPrep®, ThinPrep® Imager, and SurePath® tests, as well as the ultrasound-guided fine-needleaspiration procedure.

The results of Dr. Smith’s research efforts have been published in peer-reviewed medical journals, and she has given many oral and poster presentations at professional society meetings.
