INDICATIONS:
For routine pathology examination/diagnosis.
SPECIMEN:
Routine Histology Specimens
SUPPLIES:
1. Specimen Requisition
2. 10% neutral buffered formalin container (of appropriate size) with formalin hazard label
3. Specimen Bag with a biohazard label
COLLECTION:
The specimen must be submitted in ten percent neutral buffered formalin. Formalin container must have a formalin hazard label on the outside of the container. The amount of formalin should be fifteen to twenty times the volume of the specimen. The specimen must be placed in the formalin ASAP after removal and never allowed to dry. Failure to be placed in the formalin immediately after removal from the blood supply will cause cellular damage and compromise the diagnosis.
