Biography
Pathology Associates of Princeton, a Sonic Healthcare anatomic pathology practice is privileged to include Stephen Mercer, M.D., Ph.D., as a member of our medical staff. Dr. Mercer has extensive professional experience with an impressive academic and teaching background.
Dr. Mercer graduated summa cum laude from the University of Texas in Arlington with a Bachelor of Science degree in exercise science. Here, he also received his Master of Science degree in biology. He went on to pursue his medical degree and Ph.D. concurrently at the State University of New York Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, graduating with honors. He later completed an anatomic pathology residency at the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, where he subsequently completed a dermatopathology fellowship.
During his academic training and into his professional career, Dr. Mercer held many teaching positions. At the University of Texas at Arlington, he was an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant, a Graduate Teaching Assistant, and a Senior Research Technician. He also served as Resident Instructor for both pathology and dermatopathology courses at the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine.
He was Adjunct Clinical Instructor of the Sophie Davis School of Medicine at the City University of New York in New York City before going on to become Clinical Instructor of Dermatology and Pathology at the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine. Dr. Mercer has also garnered a wealth of professional experience, serving as the Director of Dermatopathology at Kessel Dermatology in Hamilton Square, New Jersey for over six years. He has worked with Pathology Associates of Princeton as a Staff Dermatopathologist since 2011.
Dr. Mercer is a Fellow of the American Society for Dermatopathology and the College of American Pathologists. He holds full medical licensure in the states of New York and New Jersey, and is board certified in dermatopathology and anatomic pathology. He is the recipient of over a dozen academic and professional honors and awards throughout his academic and professional career.
