University Pathologists, a Sonic Healthcare Anatomic Pathology Practice, is privileged to include Yougen Zhan, M.D., PhD, as a member of its dynamic medical staff. Dr. Zhan has an extensive academic, professional, and medical specialty background.

Dr. Zhan received his Bachelor of Medicine (medical) degree from Peking University Health Science Center in Beijing, China. He then went on to complete his anatomic and clinical pathology residency at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York. Subsequently, he completed his hematopathology fellowship also at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai before completing his Master of Science degree and Doctor of Philosophy degree in neuroscience from McGill University in Montreal, Canada.

Upon completion of his postgraduate training, Dr. Zhan began his pathology career as a staff physician at the Peking University Third Hospital in Beijing, China. He moved to the United States where He specialized in nuclear medicine and served as a research fellow at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. He moved on to Harvard Medical School to complete his postdoctoral research fellowship in cell and cancer biology, where he worked as a teaching assistant. Subsequently, he worked as a part-time researcher, engaging in clinical observation in surgical and hematopathology at the Boston University Medical Center. Dr. Zhan also served as a staff pathologist at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford, Connecticut.

Over the years, Dr. Zhan has developed extensive professional and specialty clinical experience. He holds medical research publications and articles in peer-reviewed medical journals as well as numerous abstracts, and oral and poster presentations at national medical meetings. He is an active member of the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology, American Society for Clinical Pathology, American Medical Association, and the American Society of Cell Biology.

Dr. Zhan holds full medical licensure and is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology, and hematopathology.
