Biography

CytoPath, a Sonic Healthcare anatomic pathology practice is privileged to include Weihua Tang, M.D., Ph.D., as a member of our medical staff. Dr. Tang brings with him a wealth of knowledge indicative of his international academic training and extensive professional and teaching experience.

Dr. Tang received both his medical degree and his Master of Medical Science degree from Shandong University in Jinan, China. Here, he was the recipient of the Outstanding Young Researcher award and spent 14 years on the teaching staff in Qilu Hospital as a Faculty Pathologist, an Assistant Professor, and later, an Associate Professor. He then earned his Ph.D. in pathology from the Wakayama Medical University in Japan, where he served as Research Scientist.

After relocating to the United States, Dr. Tang worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at both the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He resumed his postgraduate training with an anatomic and clinical pathology residency at the Vidant Medical Center of East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. He went on to complete a molecular genetic pathology fellowship and a hematopathology fellowship, both at the Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. He previously worked for West Georgia Pathology before transferring to CytoPath, where he currently serves as a Staff Pathologist.

Dr. Tang is a member of six professional medical organizations, including the American Society of Investigative Pathology and the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology. He holds full medical licensure in the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Virginia. He is board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and molecular genetic pathology.

Dr. Tang has had the results of his research published extensively as abstracts and articles in peer-reviewed medical journals. He has also given many oral and poster presentations at professional medical conferences, winning three awards for best oral presentations from various organizations throughout his career.
