Biography

Pacific Pathology Associates, a Sonic Healthcare anatomic pathology practice, is pleased to include Matthew F. Raines, M.D., as a member of its dynamic medical staff. Dr. Raines has extensive professional experience, including an impressive academic background.

Dr. Raines graduated with honors, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology and a Bachelor of Social Work from Spring Arbor University in Michigan. Subsequently, he graduated summa cum laude from the Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in biology. He then received his medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine, where he graduated cum laude.

Dr. Raines completed a four-year pathology residency at the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium in San Antonio, Texas, where he was Chief Resident during his last year and was awarded with the Air Force Achievement Medal. He launched his professional career as a Medical Director and Chief of Clinical Pathology at the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson Hospital, serving as the Laboratory Medical Director.

Dr. Raines’ interdisciplinary and professional activities include presenting pathology surgical cases as a member of the JBER Hospital Tumor Board and reviewing hospital-wide transfusions and blood management as a member of the Blood Utilization Function. He is also a voting member of the hospital’s Executive Committee of Medical Staff. His academic and research efforts have been published in numerous medical journals, including the Journal of General Internal Medicine. He has also given presentations at various medical conferences and meetings.

Dr. Raines is a member of many professional medical organizations, including the College of American Pathologists and American Society of Clinical Pathologists. He holds full medical licensure and is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology by the American Board of Pathology.
