Cunningham Pathology, a Sonic Healthcare anatomic pathology practice is privileged to include James Dennis Lee, M.D., as a member of our medical staff. Dr. Lee has extensive professional experience with an impressive academic background.

Dr. Lee graduated from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, where he earned both his Bachelor of Science and his Master of Science degrees in microbiology. He served as a Laboratory Technician at the Children’s Hospital of Birmingham, Alabama, and subsequently, the University of South Alabama in Mobile, where he later received his medical degree and was the recipient of both the Student Merit Award and the Outstanding Student Award.

Dr. Lee went on to complete a pathology and microbiology residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He then finished an anatomic and clinical pathology residency - during which he served as Chief Resident and Clinical Instructor - and a dermatopathology fellowship, both at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

Since completing his postgraduate training, Dr. Lee has served on the staff of over a dozen hospitals across Alabama, including Gadsden Surgery Center, Cullman Regional Medical Center, and five hospitals of the St. Vincent Health System. He currently serves as Staff Dermatopathologist and Director of Histology for Cunningham Pathology.

Dr. Lee is a member of ten professional medical organizations both regional and national, including the Alabama Association of Pathologists, the American Society for Clinical Pathology, and the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology. He holds full medical licensure in the states of Alabama, Florida and Mississippi. He is board certified in dermatopathology and anatomic and clinical pathology.

Dr. Lee has given many lectures and presentations at professional society meetings and universities. He also served as a peer reviewer for the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology.
