Biography

Mark & Kambour Pathology, a Sonic Healthcare Anatomic Pathology Practice, is privileged to have Alicia Hirzel, M.D., M.P.H., join its dynamic medical staff. Dr. Hirzel has an extensive academic and medical professional background.

Dr. Hirzel received her medical degree from Universidad Internacional de las Américas in San Jose, Costa Rica. She worked as a primary healthcare physician at the Integral Healthcare Clinic in Belize City, Belize before relocating to the United States, where she received her Master of Public Health degree from Florida International University in Miami, Florida. Subsequently, she went on to work as a case manager and discharge planner at the Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, Florida. She then began her postgraduate training with a surgical pathology fellowship and a pathology residency, also at the Mt. Sinai Medical Center. She then went on to complete a cytology fellowship and a pediatric pathology fellowship, both at the Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami.

Upon completion of her post-graduate training, Dr. Hirzel began holding key positions across hospitals and practices in the Miami area. She was a voluntary assistant professor at the University of Miami, as well as an interim director of the pediatric pathology department at Jackson Memorial Hospital. She was also an independent contractor for Northshore Hospital, Hialeah Hospital, and Complete Bio Solution Library, prior to her position as a staff pathologist at Mark & Kambour Pathology.

Over the years, Dr. Hirzel has developed extensive academic and medical professional experience. She holds medical research publications, articles, and abstracts in peer-reviewed medical journals, as well as oral and poster presentations for professional medical conferences. She is a fellow of the American Society for Clinical Pathology, and the College of American Pathologists, and an active member of the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology.

Dr. Hirzel holds full medical licensure and is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology, pediatric pathology, cytology.
